The Perosi Academy of Biella is one of the most prestigious Italian musical institutions. Founded in the early 1980s with the aim of bringing together the most esteemed teachers on the international scene within the same institution, over the years, through a multitude of activities that revolve around advanced training courses, it has distinguished itself as an extraordinary model for promoting music. Today, it is a place of exchange between old and new generations of musicians. The students who participate in the advanced training courses every year come from over 40 countries. Thanks to the comparison with the experience of teachers, composers, critics and concert performers, they increase their preparation by focusing on the aesthetic, historical and technical aspects of interpretation.

Many Academy graduates are now Conservatory teachers, professors in European Opera and Symphony Orchestras or internationally renowned concert artists. Operating in the context of national excellence recognized with resources from the Ministry of Culture for the highest level of training, the Academy, in addition to being a workshop for talented young people, is active on various fronts: from publishing to violin restoration. The artistic and educational activities of the Perosi Foundation are recognized by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism for High and Very High Artistic and Musical Training and have been supported, uninterruptedly since its inception, by the Piedmont Region. A reality of High Artistic and Musical Training that in over forty years of history has educated and trained generations of artists, thanks also to the contribution offered by the most illustrious masters on the international scene. Numerous are the results obtained by students and recent graduates.

Among the most recent is the first prize at the Paganini Competition in Genoa obtained by Giuseppe Gibboni, a few weeks after graduating from Pavel Berman’s class, after five years at the school. In 2023, for the second time on the podium of the “Paganini”, another student of the Academy, the young Jingzhi Zhang. The concert season “i concerti dell’accademia”, now in its 47th edition, has also been awarded the medal of the President of the Republic. Among the many artists who have brought prestige to the Concert Season, we recall Katia Ricciarelli, Aldo Ciccolini, Paul Badura Skoda, Franco Gulli, Pina Carmirelli, Bruno Canino, the Tokyo Trio, the Orchestra of the Teatro Regio of Turin, the Arad Orchestra and the Timisoara Choir, Ana Chumachenco, Pavel Berman, Andrea Lucchesini, Marco Rizzi, Alexander Lonquich, Igudesman & Joo, Domenico Nordio, Francesca Dego, Trio Tchaikovsky, Atos Trio, Ramin Bahrami, Roberto Cominati, Grigorji Sokolov, Trio di Parma, Khatia Buniatishvili, Angela Hewitt, Notos Quartett, Benedetto Lupo, Mario Brunello…

UNIPerosi

On December 4, 2024, the Perosi Academy Foundation of Biella received official recognition from the Italian Ministry of University and Research, granting academic equivalency between the degrees awarded by the Academy and university degrees.
For the purpose of participating in public competitions, the Academy’s degrees are equivalent to the First- and Second-Level Academic Diplomas issued by AFAM Conservatories (according to Article 1, paragraphs 102–107, of the 2013 Stability Law – Law No. 228/2012).
A dedicated technical advisory commission from the Ministry of University and Research (Mur) and the Ministry of Culture (Mic) reviewed the documentation submitted by the Perosi Academy and recognized the equivalency to the following university degrees:
Bachelor’s Degree (L-3) in Visual Arts, Music, Performing Arts, and Fashion

Master’s Degree (LM-45) in Musicology and Musical Heritage

This recognition applies to six areas of study: Piano, Flute, Violin, Viola, Cello, and Chamber Music.

Program Learning Outcomes

We aim to provide students with an in-depth knowledge of the humanities and to enrich and complement technical training with interdisciplinary and transferable skills.

Learning Environment

The Perosi Academy provides a stimulating space for students to explore and develop their own artistic style.
It fosters integration between performance practice and humanities-based studies.

Connection to the Professional World

Direct engagement with the industry creates a virtuous cycle between the Academy, faculty, and the local community. A collaborative exchange between the cultural institution and its surrounding environment enriches both parties.

Rooted in History, Oriented Toward the Future

The Perosi Academy is a place where technical and humanistic education come together, preparing students to become well-rounded, thoughtful musicians. The music field is constantly evolving, shaped by genres and cross-cultural influences. Understanding the historical and social context of musical scores is essential.

Our faculty

The teaching staff of the Perosi Academy Foundation is composed of highly renowned professionals. In the case of multiple faculty members for the same instrument, candidates may indicate a preference, which will be honored whenever class capacity allows.

Advanced Education Serving Youth

and our territory

Recognized by the Ministry of Culture as a national center of excellence in advanced musical education, the Perosi Academy represents a remarkable repository of ideas and projects. Through direct application, enhancement, and use of knowledge, it contributes to the social, cultural, and economic development of society.
